Unforeseen vs. unforeseeable

A situation is 'unforseen' if people don't realise in advance that it will happen.
A situation is 'unforseeable' if it is impossible for people to realise in advance that it will happen.

 

例子：Due to unforeseen (or unforeseeable) circumstances, the event has been cancelled.

例子：Such a consequence is unforeseeable.

The tunnel boring machine was seriously damaged and an investigation was looking into whether to repair it or to b the remaining tunnel by other means. Either way, construction of that part of the project would be prolonged by nine months.
