Hiking tips

 

人在野，暫時遠離文明束縛之餘，也要注意安全！炎炎夏日，不少人愛溯澗夜行，興起時呼朋喚友，大家又是否準備充足？除了指南針、地圖和電話，一些遠足基本功，也是護身符。今集English in News 提綱契領，論盡郊野安全守則！       

The group should stay together. Don't allow any member to lag behind or get too far ahead. Keep an eye on members' physical, mental and emotional state. Be aware of each other - and look after each other. 

 

lag behind 脫隊
(verb 動詞)

例子：He's lagging behind a bit - I think we'd better wait for him to catch us up.
他有點脫隊了——我看我們最好等他趕上來。
 

keep an eye on sth. 留意；留神
 

例子：Will you keep your eye on my suitcase while I go to get the tickets?

emotional
(adjective 形容詞)

 

1. 情緒（上）的，情感（上）的

例子：My doctor said the problem was more emotional than physical.

我的醫生說問題主要出在情感方面而不是身體機能上。
 

2. 激動的；感情強烈的

例子：She's a very emotional girl. 她是個感情易衝動的女孩。

 

Maintain a constant speed, without going too fast or too slow. Generally, it is recommended to make a day a hike of 15 km or less. 

 

constant 經常發生的；連續發生的；連續不斷的
(adjective形容詞)

例子：He's in constant trouble with the police. 他與警方麻煩不斷。

例子： machines that are in constant use 經常使用的機器
 

hike（尤指鄉間的）遠足，長途健行
(noun 名詞 / verb 動詞)

例子：We'll put the packs on our backs and get into the woods and really hike.
我們背上背包，進入森林，真正地徒步旅行。

 

Stick to regularly maintained trails. Exploring new routes will put you in danger, or at least waste time. Don't walk along any natural watercourses. Mountain torrents after sudden heavy rain are extremely dangerous.

(noun 名詞)

例子：People should avoid going near easily flooded watercourses or passing through flooded areas.
市民應避免接近容易泛濫的河道及避免穿過水淹地區。

 

torrent 
(noun 名詞)

1. （尤指似乎無法控制的）狂潮，迸發

例子：He let out a torrent of abuse/angry words.
他連珠炮地說了一大堆謾罵／生氣的話。
 

2. 洪流；激流

例子：Heavy rainfall turned the river into a rushing/raging torrent.
大雨將河水變成了洶湧的激流。

 

To avoid serious dehydration in hot weather, take frequent breaks around midday - and drink plenty of water, steadily in small drinks.

 

dehydration 脫水
(noun名詞)

例子：The eyes are often retracted from dehydration.
眼睛常因脱水而凹陷。

例子：More than 11,000 children die every day around the world because of dehydration caused by diarrhoea.
