Emotions

 

喜怒哀怕憎，人的情緒，可能始於五種，但又豈止五種？Kevin 會跟 Jo 鑽進大家的記憶回路，看看我們的情感是怎樣走過來的。

 

joy 快樂

(noun 名詞)

 

joyful (adjective 形容詞)

 

► jump for joy 快樂得跳起

例子：The kid jumped for joy when he saw the gift.

 

► pride and joy 使某人感到無比驕傲的人或事物

例子：The company is their pride and joy.

 

no joy 沒機會（成功）(BrE informal)

= no success or luck

 

例子：They expect no joy from the vote.

 

Synonyms: delight (noun 名詞) delighted (adjective 形容詞)

 

sadness 哀傷

(noun 名詞)

 

sad

(adjective 形容詞)

 

Synonyms: unhappy, sorrowful, upset, dejected, regretful…

 

例子：sad stories / sad news / sad films

 

It’s my sad duty to inform you that…/ Sad to say,… 我很遺憾，但有責任通知你…

a sad case of cruelty/neglect   慘不忍睹的殘忍／令人痛心疾首的疏忽

 

It’s a really sad shirt  老土的衫 [informal]

= pathetic (informal) 可憐的；可悲的

 

例子：Those sad youngsters who think they are smart.

 

fear 害怕

(noun 名詞 / verb 動詞)

 

fearful (adjective 形容詞)

 

  • to show no fear   毫無懼色

 

  • have no fear!   別怕！

 

  • for fear of + n. / for fear that + clause   唯恐…

例子：He hid away for fear of being punished. / He hid away for fear that he would be published.

 

  • in fear of 戰戰兢兢

例子：The man has been living in fear of murder.

 

  • “No fear!” [Informal, for emphasis, spoken] 當然不... (do not want to do sth)

例子："Are you coming?" "No fear!"   “你來嗎?” “我可不去!”

 

anger 憤怒

angry (adjective 形容詞)

= rage, fury

= enrage, infuriate + no prep.

 

例子：He angered / enraged / infuriated his wife.

 

I was infuriated (adjective 形容詞) with him.

I got more enraged (adjective 形容詞) at him.

(noun 名詞 / verb 動詞)

 

disgusted   vs.   disgusting

(adjective 形容詞)

 

例子：I’m disgusted with his behaviour.

例子：Students nowadays do not fear their teachers.

例子：Students nowadays have no fear of their teachers.

例子：I fear for her safety.   我很擔心她的安全。
