CY not seeking re-election

 

Hong Kong’s embattled leader left the city stunned and threw next year’s chief executive election wide open by ­announcing that he would not seek a second term to spare his family “unbearable pressure”.

 

embattled
(adjective 形容詞)

  3. 絕色的; 絕妙的 例子:She looked stunning in the party. 美豔照人

call it quits 停止爭執;終止關係

例子:After 20 years of marriage, they suddenly decided to call it quits.  經歷了20年的婚姻後, 他們突然決定終止婚姻關係。

例子:The couple have called it quits. 這對情侣告吹了。

 

英文成語call it quits是由cry quits演變而來,意思是「叫停」,用途廣泛。

1. 「到此為止」

例子:It’s time for lunch. Let’s call it quits. 午餐時間到了。我們就此打住吧。

 

2. 「不幹」

例子:I’m calling it quits. I have had enough! 不幹了。我已經受夠了!
