CY not seeking re-election

 

Hong Kong’s embattled leader left the city stunned and threw next year’s chief executive election wide open by ­announcing that he would not seek a second term to spare his family “unbearable pressure”.

 

embattled
(adjective 形容詞)

  3. 絕色的; 絕妙的 例子：She looked stunning in the party. 美豔照人

call it quits 停止爭執；終止關係

例子：After 20 years of marriage, they suddenly decided to call it quits.  經歷了20年的婚姻後, 他們突然決定終止婚姻關係。

例子：The couple have called it quits. 這對情侣告吹了。

 

英文成語call it quits是由cry quits演變而來，意思是「叫停」，用途廣泛。

1. 「到此為止」

例子：It’s time for lunch. Let’s call it quits.　午餐時間到了。我們就此打住吧。

 

2. 「不幹」

例子：I’m calling it quits. I have had enough! 不幹了。我已經受夠了！
