Experiential shopping

聽過「購物體驗」,但有沒有聽過「購買『體驗』」?

當購買的不再是有形有體的「物」,亦不是一種「服務」,而是一種「體驗」,裡面究竟什麼葫蘆賣什麼藥?

Shopping may be about to undergo a dramatic transformation. Within the next decade it could change into an activity driven entirely by experiences and interactive technology rather than the act of buying. Think pop-up shops on steroids; places where you try things on or test products in person but don’t actually make any purchases.

1. experience(s) (countable)(一次)經歷

(noun 名詞)

e.g. That was quite an experience!   那次經歷不同尋常!

e.g. Sky-diving is the experience of a lifetime.   跳傘是難得的人生經歷。

experience (uncountable) 經歷 / 經驗

Kevin 特別提醒大家,「工作經驗」英文應該寫作 work experience,而非 working experience!

experiential 體驗式

(adjective 形容詞)

e.g. This rise in so-called ‘experiential shopping’ is in part a reaction to the growth of online shopping.

2. Pop-up shops / stores

Pop-Up Store在中文仍未有正式譯名,有的叫期間限定店、有的則叫快閃店、遊擊店,到底Pop-Up Store是什麼呢?早在90年代,Pop-Up Store在東京、倫敦、洛衫磯、紐約已經出現,聽聽兩位主持介紹吧!

e.g. In this economy, retailers are reluctant to invest in new locations. But with rents cheap, they're opening short-term pop-up stores for the holidays.

3. on steroids 到了一個極致

(informal idiom 非正式慣用語)

> steroid [ˈstɪərɔɪd]  類固醇

e.g. The new Double Cheeseburger Special is a hamburger on steroids.

“The way in which we are able to have our visitors physically, tangibly, sensually engage with brands has a return on investment that no ad could ever come close to.” (Maryellis Bunn, who designed the experience, said in an interview with New York Magazine)

4. physically, tangibly, sensually

tangible 可觸摸的, 有形的 (adjective 形容詞)

sensual 官能的 (the five senses) (adjective 形容詞)

Listening comprehension

Question: How is shopping being experienced based on the two examples mentioned by the speaker?

兩個例子,一間是鞋店,另一間是時裝店,都積極開拓「體驗式購物」!

A song for you

"The Last Mall" by Steely Dan (2003)

這是一首因 ghost towns 有感而發的歌。雖然節奏輕快,但藍調的基底仍然令歌曲充滿離愁別緒。

Attention all shoppers

It's Cancellation Day

Yes the Big Adios

Is just a few hours away

{...}

Roll your cart back up the aisle

Kiss the checkout girls goodbye

Ride the ramp to the freeway

Beneath the blood orange sky

adios = an informal goodbye

blues 藍調

(noun 名詞)

藍調是一種曲調憂傷的慢節奏音樂,源自美國南部,內容主要圍繞歌者的困苦生活或愛情不幸。

e.g. Billie Holiday was famous for singing the blues.   Billie Holiday以演唱藍調怨曲聞名。

> have the blues 感到憂傷 (informal 非正式)

aisle

1. (客機、電影院或教堂座席間的)走廊,過道,走道

e.g. Would you like an aisle seat or would you prefer to be by the window?

您想要靠近走道的座位還是靠近窗戶的?

2. (商店貨架間的)通道

e.g. You'll find the shampoo and the soap in the fourth aisle from the entrance.

洗髮水和肥皂在從入口處數第四個通道的貨架上。
