Power plant going green

 

The UK plans to end coal-fired electricity by 2025. But what happens to the massive plants left behind? One facility is pioneering an unusual idea: converting to green energy.

A similar story is unfolding elsewhere in the world. Many nations, including the US, are moving away from coal as other energies become cheaper and as environmental regulations cool the market for this fossil fuel. However, from the perspective of a plant operator, though, replacing coal isn’t easy. That’s because biomass is a far less forgiving material than coal.

在世界其他地方也有類似的情況，包括美國。很多國家正減少使用煤發電，因為有其他更便宜的能源及環保政策，令煤的需求下降。但在發電廠的營運者而言，取代煤並不容易，因為生物能源沒有煤那樣容易處理。
