The Life of Nelson Mandela

 

2013年12月5日，南非人權領袖納爾遜‧曼德拉 (Nelson Mandela)逝世。作為反種族隔離運動的象徵人物，他對自由、平等的追求，影響後世至深。

 

曼德拉生平簡介

1918年7月18日，曼德拉於南非特蘭斯凱(Transkei) 出生。

1944年，他在加入南非國民大會。由於他領導反種族隔離運動，最終於1962年8月被南非法院以密謀推翻政府等罪名將他定罪。

曼德拉在獄中服刑27年，成為反種族隔離運動的象徵人物。

1990年，當時的南非總統德克勒克（Frederik Willem de Klerk）宣布無條件釋放曼德拉。1993年，曼德拉獲頒諾貝爾和平獎；並於1994年成為南非第一任民選總統。

著有《漫長自由路》 (Long Walk to Freedom) 及《與自己的對話》 (Conversations with Myself) 。

apartheid 種族隔離

1948年至1991年間，南非實行種族隔離政策，把有色人種和白人的生活空間嚴格區分開來，令黑人、印度人等無法享受同等的投票權、教育、醫療以及其他公共服務。注意apartheid 的讀音是[a-p'ar-tai-d]，源自荷蘭語「區分、隔離制度」之意。
