Brexit referendum

 

爭拗多時的英國脫離歐盟公投，以「脫歐」告終，但事情遠未告一段落。不少居英的歐洲移民，擔心日後是否還能自由出入英國；英磅早段急跌，亦令人心惶惶。今次，Jo會跟Kevin了解居於英國的羅馬尼亞族群，聽聽他們的心聲。

The UK's vote to leave the European Union has stunned most Romanians who live here, sowing confusion and doubt in a community that has grown dramatically since the country's accession to the EU in 2007.

 

stun 使震驚

例子：News of the disaster stunned people throughout the world.

confusion

1. 困惑，糊塗；迷惑不解；混淆

accession

1. 就職，登基

例子：1926 was the year of Emperor Hirohito's accession to the throne.
1926年日本天皇裕仁即位。

 

2. 正式加入（國際組織），簽署（條約）

Levels of anxiety in the community were heightened by headlines in Romania itself such as: "All Romanians to be kicked out of Britain after the referendum".

Many Romanians have felt increasingly vulnerable and disorientated, although the surge of xenophobic abuse has not been reported.

surge

1. 陡增，遽增，急遽上升

例子：An unexpected surge in electrical power caused the computer to crash.

xenophobic 排外
