Saint Augustine "What does love look like? "

 

What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men. That is what love looks like.

愛是什麼？它無色無味，但早期西方基督教神學家、哲學家奧古斯丁卻說，它有手有腳、隨緣樂助；眼看他人之需要、耳聽哀聲。

 

hasten

（verb 動詞）

 

1. 加快，加緊

例子：There is little doubt that poor medical treatment hastened her death.

毫無疑問，劣質的治療加速了她的死亡。

 

2. 趕快，趕緊（做）/ 急忙說（或澄清）

例子：The president hastened to reassure his people that he was in perfect health.

總統立即解釋說他的身體狀況非常好，讓他的人民放心。

 

needy

（adjective 形容詞）

 

► the needy 需要幫助的人

 

1. 貧窮的，缺乏生活必需品的

例子：The proceeds from the sale go to help needy people in the area.

此次義賣的收入用來幫助該地區的窮人。

 

2. 需要過多關懷的

例子：Sybil was very insecure and needy.  

西比爾很缺乏安全感，很需要別人的關懷。
